New Zealand, Australia, and...LA??

It's official...less than a month until departure!

The travel Gods have been extremely good to us...first, an extra day in Sydney (free of charge) and now, the city of Los Angeles. Because our flights have worked out the way they have, we fly into LAX, and are supposed to have a 10 hour layover. EF (being the wonderful company they are) said, "this just won't do," and have booked us on a sightseeing tour of LA. We will also get to eat dinner there instead of in the airport. Cannot tell you how excited I am for this, and hopefully, you all are as well. Think of it as a third destination for free!!

So, I now have in my possession the flight itinerary for our trip. It is as follows:

DEPART
Sunday, July 3rd: Depart Grande Prairie at 9:00am, arrive in Calgary at 10:32 am
Depart Calgary at 12:00pm, arrive in LA at 2:10pm
Depart LA at 11:40pm, arrive in Auckland, NZ at 8:10am on the 5th
(remember that we cross the international date line, so we
lose a day. Actual air time from LA to NZ is about 12-14 hours)

RETURN
Monday, July 18th: Depart Sydney, AU at 1:05pm, arrive in LA at 9:45am
Depart LA at 3:00pm, arrive in Calgary at 6:54pm
Depart Calgary at 8:30pm,arrive in Grande Prairie at 11:05pm

**Reminders**
~ Tip money was due on June 1st, anyone who has yet to pay, please do so ASAP!
~ I am missing visa information, and documents for some people. If you are unsure if you have provided everything, send me an email, or call!
~ Final MANDATORY meeting on June 22nd at 7pm.

Thanks, and see you soon!

DATES!!

Finally, what we have ALL been waiting for!

Departure date: July 3rd

Return date*: July 17th

*Actual return date: July 18th -- As perhaps the Universe apologizing for making us wait so long, or as a reward for almost being cancelled, EF could not get us home on the 17th, so...we are staying in Sydney for an extra day! They will cover all the extra costs included (hotel, food, transportation). So, yay for happy accidents.

The meeting in June will be changed as well because of conflicts, so I will let you know when that will be once I have it confirmed.

58 days and counting...

Departure Date

Hi Everyone,

I am, like you, waiting for the news of departure. Believe me, I have been emailing and calling them every day, hoping that they will let me know. I have included the email response that I received from the representative for EF. As soon as I know, I promise, I will let you know...

Hi Lori,

No news yet – I just spoke to the flights allocator and she has confirmed that we are just in the final stages of booking the flights. I should have an update for you by the end of the week.

Thank you for your patience and I’m sorry we don’t have your confirmed dates yet.

Thanks,
Aimee

Buried in Paperwork!

Alright Folks...

This is it! Since I am creating a blog for the trip, it means the trip is getting ever so near. While I know we are still over three months away, there is oh so much to be done!

First, this is the blog I will be using to post updates and photos and videos while we are in Australia and New Zealand. So please subscribe, or write down the address - It is the quickest way for you to find out what's going on while your son or daughter is away. Also, through this website, you can leave comments or messages from home, so it is a great way for us to all stay connected while we are "down under."

Second, there are some things I need from people. I do not want to name names :), but there are many people who have not yet handed in their forms, or photocopies of passports and birth certificates need to do this (like yesterday). The reason I need all of this stuff is because I have to check it all against the info EF has, AND I keep a binder of it all just incase. What's that you say, you do not yet have your passport or visa? If this is you, please email me at lorisharpe@pwsd76.ab.ca or call me! (Super important!)

Third, now is the time to start thinking about all those little details...things you need to buy, get, find etc., phones/plans, planning out spending money, ordering in currency, getting addresses etc. I also, really recommend getting a travel journal. It may sound silly, but you'll be wishing you had written in one when you're back home trying to remember what restaurant you ate in on day two, or the name of that really great local you met who gave you some pointers on Aussie slang. I take one, and write in it at various times throughout the day (point form) or write an entry at the end of the day. Parents want to hear all about it, and this is the best way to keep track.

Don't forget about the upcoming meeting on March 22nd at 7pm at SRRA!

And, to get you in the mood, a video of Australia:

And New Zealand:

Enjoy! :)
